At lunchtime every day, I go to the deli to buy a sandwich. I usually get a ham and cheese sandwich, but sometimes I get a tuna sandwich. No matter what sandwich I eat, I like to get different kinds of potato chips every day. Today I am going to get BBQ flavored chips.

My favorite deli is only five minutes from my house. It's an Italian deli, so they sell lots of Italian foods. My mom comes here to buy spaghetti. The workers are so nice! They always give me a free pickle with my sandwich.

"Hi, Matt!" I say to the man behind the counter.

"Hey, Dave! Do you want a ham and cheese sandwich today?" He asks me.

"No, not today. I think I am going to try something different. Can you make me a turkey sandwich?"

"Of course! I can make anything you want!" Dave says with a smile. "We have a delicious potato salad today, too. Would you like to try some?"

"I would love to try some!" I say to him.

"Thanks, Matt!" I say as he gives me my food. "See you tomorrow!"

"See you tomorrow!"

Last night, when we were sleeping, our boat landed on a beautiful island. We don't know where we are now, but we know that we are in the Pacific Ocean. We got lost two days ago, and just landed on this beautiful island. Our food is running out, so we need to go out to explore the island. It looks very big and there are many colorful birds. Jon says that he wants to build a little house, so he is going to look for some trees and big leaves. Lisa thinks that she can catch some fish, so she is going down to the ocean. Maggie is going to look for fruit and I am going to find some fresh water.

"Dave!" yells Jon. "Come here! You have to see this!" I run to him as fast as I can and he says, "Look up." When I look up, I see that he is pointing to some coconuts at the top of a tree. "It's a coconut tree!" I exclaim. "Now we can drink fresh coconut milk! But, who is going to climb the tree?" I ask.

This place is really amazing. After we drank some coconut milk, we continued to explore the island, and we found some very interesting things. I went to look for fresh water. I walked into the island and heard the sound of running water. I continued to push myself through the trees and leaves and I discovered that this island has a small mountain in the center. The running water that I heard was the sound of a waterfall! It is amazing!And the water is fresh!

I ran out of the jungle and found the other three. I was running so fast and was so excited that I almost couldn't talk. "Guys! Guys! Guess what I found!" I said to them. "What? What did you find?" they all asked. "Did you find water?" "Yes, but I found more than water. I found a huge waterfall!"

"Really? That's amazing! I found some fresh bananas and Lisa caught four fish, too," Maggie said to me. "Let's go to the waterfall, cook the fish, eat the bananas, drink the coconut milk, and go for a swim." "That's a great idea!" we all agreed.

When people get lost on the ocean and land on an island, they usually want other people to come and find them. One thing they do is to spell the letters "SOS" really big on the beach. If a plane fl ies over the island, the pilot might see the letters and send a boat to help the people. The people on the island might also write a letter, put it in a bottle and then put the bottle in the ocean. If someone finds the bottle, they can read the message and fi nd a way to help.

Dave is cooking some fish for dinner and I am making cups from pieces of bamboo. We use big leaves as plates and eat with our fingers. The girls go to get some fresh fruit and water. The fish smells really good!Dave really knows how to cook fish!

When the girls return, the fish is ready to eat. We sit down to eat and the wind suddenly begins to blow very strong. The air quickly becomes chilly and we can feel drops of rain begin to fall. The weather is always so good. We never build a good house to sleep in. When the rain comes, we have nowhere to go.

We get really wet and feel very hungry. We know what we have to do when the rain stops-build a house!

This island is big. It is really, really big. We still haven't seen the other side of it! We have been here for many weeks. We have built good houses and have lots of food and water. Now we should really go explore the whole island.

"Let's walk through the jungle to the waterfall and then walk to the other side of the mountain," suggested Maggie. We all agreed that it was a good idea and walked into the island. We had never walked to the other side of the mountain before, so we were all very surprised to find another waterfall! But there were more surprises... Dave found some old mango peels on the ground and we all wondered where they came from. Where did the mangoes come from and what ate them?We had not seen any monkeys or other animals on the island before. We decided that we should continue to explore, so we could discover the answerto this mystery. We walked for about forty minutes and then Lisa stopped suddenly and told us to be quiet. When we stopped walking, we could hear noises that sounded like voices. We pushed through the jungle, to the voices, and discovered a small village! We're not alone!

Yesterday we discovered we are not alone on the island. We found a small village on the other side of the mountain. There are eight people living there, but I think only one of them can speak English. "One day," they said, "we were taking a sailing trip and got lost. We were lost for two days and then we discovered this island."

Unbelievable! The same thing happened to us! They came from Argentina originally, so they speak Spanish. Luckily, Lisa studied Spanish for six years and lived in Mexico for one year with her family. She learned that the villagers have lived on the island for about one year. Their houses are much better than ours and their village is also much bigger. They discovered some different things here. The fruit is different. On our side, we only have bananas and coconuts, but they have mangoes and some red berries too. We were so happy to find other people living on the island! We quickly walked back to our village to get some fish, bananas and coconuts. Then, we walked back to their village and cooked a big dinner with them. We have neighbors!

昨天,我们发现岛上除了我们还有其他人。我们在山的另一边找到了一个要比我们的好多了,而且他们的村庄也大得多。他们在这儿发现了一些不小村庄。村子里住着八个人,不过我想只有一个人会说英语。“一天,”他们说,我们在航行时迷路了。两天后我们发现了这座岛。”
