前言
“听”是语言交际活动的基础。小学阶段的孩子们处在听觉最敏锐、模仿力和记忆力最强的阶段，这一时期无疑是培养孩子们听力能力的最佳时期。同时，培养阅读能力是有效发展学生的综合语言运用能力的手段之一，孩子们在小学阶段就应该有意识地进行英语阅读习惯和能力的培养，为终身发展打下良好的基础。教育部最新的《全日制义务教育英语课程标准》中也明确指出:“语言技能包括听、说、读、写四个方面的技能以及这四种技能的综合运用能力。听和读是理解的技能，说和写是表达的技能。”听力训练和阅读训练是相辅相成的，都是对理解能力的培养。为了更好地体现听力和阅读能力相互促进的效果，我们组织了一批经验丰富的一线英语教师，按照课程标准中规定的各级听读要求，结合听、读各自的特点，编写了本套丛书各类听力和阅读材料。这套书的突出特点在于：
1. 材料新颖，图文结合，激发兴趣
基础阶段的英语课程目标中首先提到的是对学生英语兴趣的培养，因而本套书在选材内容方面注重趣味性、生活性，贴近学生日常生活。编排方面配有双色图片和可爱的动物形象，版式活泼，提供轻松的训练环境。
2. 合理训练方式，训练体系完整，题型贴近考试
本书秉持语言习得规律来设计听、读训练，从最基础的音、词、短语入手，逐渐深入至句子、对话、段落，形成完整的训练体系。听力训练主要包括听音辨音，听句子选图片，判断句子正误，听对话，听写单词，听力理解等。阅读训练包括看图选词，选句子完成对话，看图填空、判断，首字母填空，阅读理解等。这些题目形式活泼多样，角度灵活多变，与学生平时小考、期中、期末、升学考的试题相近，现学现用。
3. 单元设置有序，篇目精挑细选
本书设置90篇听力训练和90篇阅读训练，分为18个星期，与学校课程进度同步。每周从星期一到星期五各安排一份听力练习和一份阅读练习，题量适中，能让孩子们每天轻轻松松地定量完成任务，从而养成良好的学习习惯。同时，每篇阅读和听力的文章，都是从海量题库中精挑细选出来的，符合课标要求。
4. 参考答案和听力原文，双管齐下
文后提供了所有练习的参考答案，听力部分提供听力原文，供学生和家长们自主查询，检验学习成果。
