第1章 大学英语六级命题分析

1.1 考试简介

1.考试性质

大学英语四六级考试是教育部主管的一项全国性的教学考试,其目的是对大学生的实际英语能力进行客观、准确的测量,为大学英语教学提供服务。大学英语考试系列包括笔试和口试,笔试分为大学英语四级考试(CET-4)和大学英语六级考试(CET-6);口试为大学英语四、六级口语考试(CET-SET)。

2.报考对象

大学英语四级考试面向按一般要求修完大学英语课程的在校大学生;大学英语六级考试面向按较高要求修完大学英语课程的在校大学生。大学英语四、六级口语考试目前面向已经参加了四、六级笔试且成绩达到规定分数的在校大学生。

3.考试时间

通常情况下笔试考试时间为每年6月份、12月份的第三个星期六。2012年12月比较特殊,为第四个星期六。口试在笔试前进行,每年5月和11月各一次。

1.2 调整后的试卷分析

继2006年考试内容改革后,自2013年12月考试起,全国大学英语四、六级考试委员会将对四、六级考试的试卷结构和测试题型作局部调整。而自2016年6月考试起,全国大学英语四、六级考试委员会将再次对四、六级考试的听力试题作局部调整。

调整后的大学英语六级试卷由四部分组成:写作、听力理解、阅读理解和翻译,其试卷结构、测试内容、测试题型、分值比例和考试时间如下表所示:

2013年大学英语六级题型调整后,阅读调整部分长度和难度不变,只是考查形式方面做了调整,翻译部分也由句子翻译变成了段落翻译,并且取消了完型填空部分。自2016年6月考试起,听力部分删除短对话和短文听写,新增讲座/讲话。详细调整内容如下:

1.听力部分:

改革后的六级听力部分取消了原有的短对话和复合式听写,听力篇章由原来的3篇调整为2篇,新增了3篇听力讲座的考查,每篇听力讲座提3~4个问题,其单位分值为每题2分,共10题,以多项选择的形式出现。讲座播放一遍。

2.长篇阅读部分:

原快速阅读部分调整为长篇阅读理解,篇幅之后附有10个句子,每句一题。要求找出与每句相匹配的段落,即每句信息出自哪一段。

3.词汇理解部分:  原篇章问答部分调整为与四级相同的词汇理解题,即选词填空,之前篇章问答部分要求回答篇章后的问题或补全句子,共5小题,调整后的词汇理解题文中有10个空格,篇章后有15个选项,要求选择符合文意的单词所对应的字母。

4.翻译部分:

该部分原来为5个汉译英句子,出题形式为补充英文句子,即把括号内的汉语译成英语。题型调整后,该部分变成段落汉译英,文章长度为180~200个汉字。

1.3 题型介绍

1.写作

六级写作部分测试学生的英语书面表达能力,通常会以提纲、图片、情景、图表等形式给出提示信息,然后要求学生以此写出一篇150到200字的短文。写作测试题材会选用学生熟悉的类型,并不涉及知识面太广或专业性太强的内容,常考类型为:校园生活类,社会热点类,科技经济类,永恒话题类等。

2.听力理解

听力理解主要由对话、短文理解和讲座三部分构成:

听力对话部分包括2段长对话,每段长对话后分别提出4个问题,共提出8个问题。每段对话读一遍。

短文理解部分包括2篇文章,内容涉及天文、地理、科学、文化、教育、风俗、历史、人物、日常生活等各个方面,主要是细节题、推理题和主旨题。每篇提出3到4个问题,共7题。短文读一遍。

听力讲座部分包括3篇讲座文章,每篇文章长度为350~450字,每篇提出3~4个问题,每题2分,共10题。讲座读一遍。

3.阅读理解  阅读部分由1篇词汇理解,1篇长篇阅读和2篇仔细阅读构成:

词汇理解部分的考查形式为选词填空,文中有10个空格,篇章后附有A到O共15个选项,要求选择符合文意的单词所对应的字母。

长篇阅读部分附有10个句子,每句1题。每句所含信息出自篇章某一段落,要求将每个句子与所含相关的段落相匹配。值得注意的是,有的段落可能对应两题,而有的段落不对应任何一题。

仔细阅读部分以常见的多项选择题的形式进行考查,共有两篇,每篇后有5个问题。

4.翻译

翻译部分要求将汉语信息以英语表现出来,主要考查学生的英语表达能力,重点体现在词汇运用知识和语法结构。内容涉及中国历史、文化、经济和社会发展等方面,一般考查词组、被动语态、特殊句型、从句等的翻译。

2.1 大纲要求

1.教学大纲要求

大学英语六级考试写作部分要求考生达到达到《教学要求》中的较高要求,即“能就一般性的主题基本表达个人观点,能写所学专业论文的英文摘要,能撰写所学专业的英语小论文。能描述各种图表,能在半小时内写出160词的短文,内容完整,条理清楚,文理通顺。”

2.最新考试大纲要求  根据2013年8月出版的《关于大学英语四、六级考试题型调整的说明》,六级作文考试变动不是很大,其具体写作思路与之前类似,属现象分析原因,写作方法仍可沿用之前的写作思路。  

最新大学英语六级考试大纲对写作部分的要求如下:

写作部分考查考生运用英语进行书面表达的能力,所占分值比例为15%,考试时间30分钟。写作部分选用考生所熟悉的题材,要求考生根据所提供的信息及提示(如:提纲、情景、图片或图表等)写出一篇短文,字数为150-200词。

2.2 写作考点分析

(1)命题形式

大学英语六级命题形式多样化。按提纲的形式,CET作文大致可以分为:提纲作文、情景作文、图表作文。仔细研究历年真题,其中提纲作文和情景作文所占的比重较大。

◆提纲作文

提纲作文是六级作文考试到目前为止最常见的。它给出作文的英文题目以及传统的两点式或三点式的提纲,提纲有时是英文的,但大多数时候是用中文给出的。每段的提纲规定了各段的主旨,要求考生围绕这个中心制定主题句,再顺着主题句展开段落,最后用一句总结句回应主题。

◆情景作文

情景作文的题目中给定一个情景,或者以图画的形式展现出一个情景,要求考生在这个范围内充分发挥想象力,精心构思出一篇符合情景要求、意思连贯的短文。这类作文限定条件比较少,考生自由发挥程度较大。通常是采用书信形式,所以要求考生掌握书信的基本写作格式,有时也需要采用议论文的格式。

◆图表作文

图表作文是是考生觉得较难应付的作文形式。图表作文一般在题目中给出一个或几个统计表格、柱状图或饼状结构图等,通常还给出作文的标题和一些提示,一般要写成议论文或者说明文,要求考生:1)用文字描述图表,客观解释图表中所传递的信息并找出某种规律或趋势;2)就图表中所反映出的某种趋势或问题分析其原因或后果。

无论六级考试的作文命题形式如何变化,但是万变不离其宗,其写作的思路仍和以往现象分析原因类似,即提出问题,分析问题和解决问题三部分。写作的大致模板也就是:第一段,提出现象句+引出下文句;第二段,分析问题(列举原因);第三段,解决问题(再次提出观点)+展望。(2)作文体裁

大学英语六级考试的作文体裁多种多样,包括议论文、应用文、记叙文和说明文,其中议论文所占比重最大。但需要注意的是,有时一篇作文中可能考查多种写作体裁,例如记叙文中的夹叙夹议,议论文中包含有说明或记叙等。

◆议论文

议论文是作者对某个问题或某件事进行分析、评论,表明自己的观点、立场、态度、看法、主张的一种文体。议论文一般由论点,论据,论证三个基本要素组成。六级作文考试中议论文的三大具体要求就是:1)开头观点鲜明;2)结尾紧扣主题;3)中间段落突出主题句且衔接自然。

根据历年真题,议论文还可以分为四种类型:对比选择型、现象阐释型、问题解决型和论说反驳型。对比选择型议论文是大学英语六级考试最常见的题型。

(1)对比选择型:辨析两种对立观点。

此类型的作文是大学英语六级考试最常见的题型。它的特点十分明显。作文题目要求较明确,富有针对性,即直接要求考试比较两种观点或做法,进而陈述自己对问题或事务的态度或观点。

对比选择型主要有两种类型:“一分为二”型和“两者选一”型。

①“一分为二”型“一分为二”的观点:从两方面去分析一个问题,然后阐述自己的观点

写作模式:

Is Degree More Important than Ability?

This cartoon shows us a problem that many excellent job applicants are turned down just because they don’t have the academic degree required. Is degree really so important in finding a job? Even more important than ability? In my opinion, ability comes first and if the applicant is really competent, he should be considered.

First and foremost, when an employee is hired, he is supposed to finish his job and complete the tasks. Degree is just a certificate of educational experience and is not necessarily the evidence that the job applicant must have learned the skills and techniques needed in the job. Even if he have learned the skills, it is possible that he may fail to really use it in the practical work. Thus, the employer cannot be too dependent on the academic degree when recruiting its staff. Second, some people who haven’t received a higher education may be talented. There are a lot of factors which make a person to choose to leave school early. They may have missed the education in school, but they really have learned what they need in the society. In this case, if we just look for a degree instead of the actual ability, we may lose the opportunity to find the right person.

In conclusion, I believe that the employer should evaluate the job applicants through their ability. A good degree may be important, but it is not a must.

Is Technology Indispensable in Education

The phenomenon depicted in the cartoon that the student cannot complete such easy calculation as “what is 2 plus 2?” without a tech support, reveals that nowadays in education, we are too dependent on technology and the essence of learning is ignored. As far as I am concerned,technology plays a useful but not indispensable role in education.

Undoubtedly, technology is a useful tool in assisting students in study if used appropriately. For example, if you want to learn certain skills or solve certain problems, the Internet allows you to search for different kinds of materials that you need and the computer can help you deal with some sophisticated calculations. However, education is not just to solve some certain problems, but to inspire the students and help them tap their potentials. Do you remember these famous litterateurs: Lu Xun, Zhu Ziqing or Lao She? How familiar these names are! Unfortunately, numerous students pay little attention to the study of Chinese. Nowadays, Internet, English and games occupy students’ time and attention. For the overwhelming majority of students, the study of Chinese has become a remote memory.

Why does such a phenomenon emerge? Educators attribute it to the ignorance of university administration. Chinese is an essential course for college students in China. The Way to Happiness

In the long journey of life, we are always in the pursuit of happiness for which different people have different opinions. Most people would regard the path without obstacles as the best one, while I agree with the saying that “Happiness is not the absence of problems, but the ability to deal with them”. For the reason that there is no such a kind of life that can get rid of problems, our ability to solve problems should be enhanced.

 Firstly, in my opinion, the attitude of optimism has a great effect on our feeling of happiness. Reasons Why It Is Unwise to Jump to Conclusions upon Seeing or Hearing Something

A famous Chinese saying goes that seeing is believing, which conveys the information that what we hear is not to be trusted, while what we see is trustworthy. However, what we see or hear may be deceptive or just an illusion. So it is unwise to jump to a conclusion upon seeing or hearing something.

Sometimes what we see or hear is not the fact, it is probably staying merely on the surface of things, therefore a quick conclusion can be reckless and lead to unnecessary misunderstandings. Take the story of our great thinker of Confucius as an example. One day, Confucius saw that his student Yanhui was eating the porridge by stealth in the kitchen, and he fiercely criticized Yanhui for his deed. But the truth is that Yanhui had found some nasty stuff in the porridge, so he ate it avoiding a waste. We can learn from the story that we should be cautious about things around us and independent thinking is always needed before we make judgments.

To sum up, we shouldn't draw conclusions upon seeing or hearing something, as the judgment we make under such circumstances often cannot hold water. We should have a deep analysis of the whole matter. Only in this way can we make the correct conclusion.

2004年,大学英语四、六级考试委员会声明:以后的四、六级考试侧重考查考生的英语实际运用能力,应用文成为考查的重点题型。

应用文是指在日常生活和工作中使用的文体,包括书信、通告、演讲致辞等。像书信、演讲稿等在生活中得到实际运用的文体在六级考试中出现的次数较多。文章所涉及的内容也多种多样,大部分都与日常生活比较贴近。

书信的种类千变万化,如建议信、投诉信、申请信(包括求职信)、邀请信、感谢信、道歉信、推荐信等,再加上口头应用文,如演讲稿、通知等,是考试中较难的内容。在平时的积累中需要多注意这类文体的写作格式和方法。【例1】2005年12月写作真题

◆记叙文

记叙文是以叙述为主要表达方式,交待已发生的事件或人物的行为经历的文体。这类文章通常所叙述事情的时间、地点、人物、事件、原因及结果六大要素常见的叙述方式有顺叙、倒叙、插叙和夹叙夹议。夹叙夹议类文章在六级考试作文中经常会涉及到。

◆说明文

说明文是以说明为主要的表达方式来介绍事物的状态、性质、功能、或阐明事理,目的是给人以知识的一种文体。常用的说明方法有:下定义、举例子、打比方、作比较、引用数据等。写说明文时,需要尽量达到三点要求,即:抓住事物特征,运用说明顺序使文章条理分明,语言准确且通俗易懂。

字数要求:本次考试大纲明确指出,字数应不少于150词,不可多于200词,所以六级作文考试的推荐词数为180词。

2.3 写作应试技巧

大学英语六级考试中的写作部分的目的是“考查学生用英语进行书面表达的能力”。除了要有丰富的知识储备(包括大量的阅读、一定量能灵活运用的词汇以及用英语思维的能力)外,考生想要在写作部分取得高分还要注意以下“七大应试技能”。

◆认真审题 确定主题

审题是写好一篇文章的最重要的一个环节。根据《大学英语教学大纲》的要求,六级写作是一种给题目、提示、及指导的短文写作,因此,紧紧围绕其题旨是至关重要的。考生在审题的过程应当仔细审阅作文的说明要求和所给的材料,比如段首句、提纲、关键词、图表等,确定相应的体裁(确定是议论文、说明文、记叙文还是应用文),明确文章的中心思想,从而明确作文的写作范围和侧重点。审题的主要目的首先是确定主题,即根据题目或材料明确文章的主题思想,明确主题也就是立意的过程。一篇文章只能有一个主题思想,要鲜明、深刻、新颖。

◆粗拟提纲

确定中心思想之后,正式写文章之前,十分有必要先粗拟一个提纲。所谓“粗拟”,即不必每句话都写出来,简短地拟几个主题句,以及一些相关用词,这样做的目的是既节约时间又能规定思路,不至于偏离主题。
