Thank you for comforting me when I'm sadLoving me when I'm madPicking me up when I'm downThank you for being my friend and being aroundTeaching me the meaning of loveEncouraging me when I need a shoveBut most of all thank you forLoving me for who I am. 1In Life We Are Happiest When… A man and his girlfriend were married. It was a large celebration. All of their friends and family came to see the lovely ceremony and to partake of the festivities and celebrations. All had a wonderful time. The bride was gorgeous in her white wedding gown and the groom was very dashing in his black tuxedo. Everyone could tell that the love they had for each other was true.A few months later, the wife came to the husband with a proposal, "I read in a magazine, a while ago, about how we can strengthen our marriage," she offered. "Each of us will write a list of the things that we find a bit annoying with the other person. Then, we can talk about how we can fix them together and make our lives happier together."The husband agreed. So each of them went to a separate room in the house and thought of the things that annoyed them about the other. They thought about this question for the rest of the day and wrote down what they came up with. The next morning, at the breakfast table, they decided that they would go over their lists."I'll start," offered the wife. She took out her list. It had many items on it, enough to fill 3 pages. In fact, as she started reading the list of the little annoyances, she noticed that tears were starting to appear in her husband's eyes."What's wrong?" she asked. "Nothing," the husband replied, "keep reading your list."The wife continued to read until she had read all three pages to her husband. She neatly placed her list on the table and folded her hands over the top of it."Now, you read your list and then we'll talk about the things on both of our lists," she said happily.Quietly the husband stated, "I don't have anything on my list. I think that you are perfect the way that you are. I don't want you to change anything for me. You are lovely and wonderful and I wouldn't want to try and change anything about you."The wife, touched by his honesty and the depth of his love for her and his acceptance of her, turned her head and wept.In life, there are enough times when we are disappointed, depressed and annoyed. We don't really have to go looking for them. We have a wonderful world that is full of beauty, light and promise. Why waste time in this world looking for the bad, disappointing or annoying when we can look around us, and see the wondrous things before us?

Every day they are very busy trying to earn money in order to pay the high tuition for my brother and me. They don't act in the romantic ways that I read in books or I see on TV. In their opinion, "I love you" is too luxurious for them to say. Sending flowers to each other on Valentine's Day is even more out of the question. Finally my father has a bad temper. When he's very tired from the hard work, it is easy for him to lose his temper. One day, my mother was sewing a quilt. I silently sat down beside her and looked at her."Mom, I have a question to ask you," I said after a while."What?" she replied, still doing her work."Is there love between you and Dad?" I asked her in a very low voice. My mother stopped her work and raised her head with surprise in her eyes. She didn't answer immediately. Then she bowed her head and continued to sew the quilt.I was very worried because I thought I had hurt her. I was in a great embarrassment and I didn't know what I should do. But at last I heard my mother say the following words:"Susan," she said thoughtfully, "Look at this thread. Sometimes it appears, but most of it disappears in the quilt. The thread really makes the quilt strong and durable. If life is a quilt, then love should be a thread. It can hardly be seen anywhere or anytime, but it's really there. Love is inside. "I listened carefully but I couldn't understand her until the next spring. At that time, my father suddenly got sick seriously. My mother had to stay with him in the hospital for a month. When they returned from the hospital, they both looked very pale. It seemed both of them had had a serious illness. After they were back, every day in the morning and dusk, my mother helped my father walk slowly on the country road. My father had never been so gentle. It seemed they were the most harmonious couple. Along the country road, there were many beautiful flowers, green grass and trees. The sun gently glistened through the leaves. All of these made up the most beautiful picture in the world. The doctor had said my father would recover in two months. But after two months he still couldn't walk by himself. All of us were worried about him."Dad, how are you feeling now?" I asked him one day."Susan, don't worry about me." he said gently. "To tell you the truth, I just like walking with your mom. I like this kind of life." Reading his eyes, I know he loves my mother deeply.Once I thought love meant flowers, gifts and sweet kisses. But from this experience, I understand that love is just a thread in the quilt of our life. Love is inside, making our life strong and warm.

奢侈的Valentine's Day 情人节sew a quilt 缝被子dusk [dʌsk] n. Look at this thread. But as I gaze into your eyes now, it seems like only yesterday that I first saw you, in that small cafe in Hanover Square. From the moment I saw you smile, as you opened the door for that young mother and her newborn baby. I knew. I knew that I wanted to share the rest of my life with you.All through my life I have relived that very first day. Many, many times I have sat and thought about that the first day, and how for a few fleeting moments I am there, feeling again what is like to know true love for the very first time. It pleases me that I can still have those feelings now after all those years, and I know I will always have them to comfort me.Not even as I shook and trembled uncontrollably in the trenches, did I forget your face. I would sit huddled into the wet mud, terrified, as the hails of bullets and mortars crashed down around me. I would clutch my rifle tightly to my heart, and think again of that very first day we met. I would cry out in fear, as the noise of war beat down around me. But, as I thought of you and saw you smiling back at me, everything around me would become silent, and I would be with you again for a few precious moments, far from the death and destruction. It would not be until I opened my eyes once again, that I would see and hear the carnage of the war around me.I cannot tell you how strong my love for you was back then, when I returned to you on leave in the September, feeling battered, bruised and fragile. We held each other so tight I thought we would burst. I asked you to marry me the very same day and I whooped with joy when you looked deep into my eyes and said "yes" to being my bride.I remember being so over enjoyed, when a year later, you gently held my hand to your waist and whispered in my ear that we were going to be a family.I know both our children love you dearly; they are outside the door now, waiting.Do you remember how I panicked like a mad man when Jonathon was born? I can still picture you laughing and smiling at me now, as I clumsily held him for the very first time in my arms. I watched as your laughter faded into tears, as I stared at him and cried my own tears of joy.I know you are tired, my dear, and I must let you go. But I love you so much and it hurts to do so.I must go now, my darling. Our children are waiting outside. They want to say goodbye to you.I wipe the tears away from my eyes and bend my frail old legs down to the floor, so that I can kneel beside you. I lean close to you and take hold of your hand and kiss your tender lips for the very last time.Sleep peacefully my dear.I am sad that you had to leave me, but please don't worry. I am content, knowing I will be with you soon. I am too old and too empty now to live much longer without you.I know it won't be long before we meet again in that small cafe in Hanover Square.Goodbye, my darling wife.

魅力词汇gaze into 凝望tremble [ˈtrembl] vi. 战栗trench [trentʃ] n. 战壕huddled [ˈhʌdld] adj. 蜷缩的hails of bullets and mortars 枪林弹雨rifle [ˈraifl] n. There can be miracles when you believe,这也是本首歌的主题所在。 With no proof anyone could hear并非每个人都能听见In our hearts a hope for a song我们心中的希望之歌We barely understood我们自己也不能理解Now we are not afraid现在我们并不害怕Although we know there's much to 虽然我们知道未来有许多艰fear难险阻We were moving mountains我们负重已久Long before we knew we could, 只是原来并不清楚我们的能whoa, yes力啊是的(Chorus)(合唱)There can be miracles奇迹将会出现When you believe只要你肯相信Though hope is frail希望虽然渺茫It's hard to kill却难以磨灭Who knows what miracles谁知道你会创造怎样的奇迹You can achieveWhen you believe somehow you will只要你肯相信,你就会创造奇迹You will when you believe只要你肯相信[Mmmmmmmmm yeah]你就会创造奇迹Mmm yeahIn this time of fear在害怕的时候When prayer so often proves in vain当祈祷变得苍白无力Hope seems like the summer bird希望就像夏日里的鸟儿Too swiftly flown away悄然飞逝Yet now I'm standing here现在我伫立于此My hearts so full, I can't explain心中充满无限莫名的希望Seeking faith and speakin' words寻求信念I never thought I'd say说出从未想到会说过的话……(Repeat chorus)(重复合唱)They don't always happen when 虽然当你需要时它们并不总you ask会出现And it's easy to give in to your fears你向内心的恐惧屈服了But when you're blinded by your 但是当你被痛苦蒙住了双眼painCan't see the way, get through the 在风雨中看不见未来的出路rain时A small but still, resilient voice听到有一个声音回荡在你耳边Says love is very near, oh [Oh]说,爱就在你身边哦There can be miracles (Miracles)奇迹将会出现(奇迹)When you believe (Boy, when you 只要你肯相信(只要你肯相believe, yeah)信)[Though hope is frail](希望虽然渺茫)Though hope is frail [Its hard]希望虽然渺茫It's hard to kill (Hard to kill, oh, 却难以磨灭(难以磨灭,yeah)哦,是的)Who knows what miracles谁知道你会创造怎样的奇迹You can achieve (You can achieve, (你会创造奇迹,哦)oh)When you believe somehow you 只要你肯相信(肯相信,肯will (Somehow, somehow, 相信,肯相信)somehow)Somehow you will (I know, I know, 你就会创造奇迹(我知道,know)我知道,知道)You will when you believe [When 只要你肯相信you](Ohoh)(哦)[You will when you](只要你肯相信)(You will when you believe)(只要你肯相信)[Oohoohooh](哦)[Oh... oh](哦)[When you believe](只要你肯相信)[When you believe](只要你肯相信)
