Why does the author mention Mr.Pickwick in Charles Dickens' novel?

What did psychologists find out about Clever Hans?

What was the most significant about the experiment, according to Dr.Lit?

Which of the following phenomena makes researchers puzzled?

How many people in the room saw the gorilla in the video?

According to Sir Liam Donaldson, what is the best way to avoid obesity?

According to Zubemis, fans want their letters to be read because they _____.

Swift's management claimed that _____.

Many people are unwilling to ask for help because they _____.

In the author's eyes, his little daughter was _____.

An example of good manners on the roads is _____.

Lake Livingston is mentioned to show that the public _____.

Batteries are not an ideal energy source for sensor networks because they _____

Lisa Lit and her colleagues _____.

Which of the following is NOT considered by the author as a potential threat to kids?

Which of the following is NOT recommended by the Health Development Agency?

Which of the following is NOT changing the traditional roles of doctors and patients?

Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a cause of aggressive driving?

The other day my son asked me if he could ride up to his elementary school on his bike and meet his friend. He wanted the both of them to ride back to our house so they could play video games and jump on the trampoline(蹦床).I have to admit, part of me wanted to say no.We can go pick him up or his parents can bring him over here,I thought. But my son is eleven years old now.And after all,I do let him ride his bike to school. But I also drive my daughter to school and I can see him on the way, making sure he is getting there safely.

My husband thinks I am too overprotective.I don't dare to let my children walk anywhere without one of us going along. As you pull out of our neighborhood, there is a shopping center across the street. My son always asks if he can ride his bike or walk over to the drugstore by himself. But crossing that street is just too dangerous. The cars fly around the comer like they're driving in a car race. What if he gets hit? What if some teenage bullies are hanging out in the parking lot?

31.What did the author feel reluctant to let her son do?A.Meet his friend.(见他的朋友。)B.Play video games.(打电子游戏。)C.Jump on the trampoline.(在蹦床上跳。)D.Ride his bike on streets.(在大街上骑车。)

由第一段最后一句“...I can see him on the way, making sure he is getting there safely.”以及第二段最后两句“What if he gets hit? What if some...parking lot?”

ride up to 骑车赶到

trampoline n.

elementary school 小学

overprotective adj.

bully n.

What if some teenage bullies are hanging out in the parking lot?(1)该句是个假设句。“What if...”

California has a new program called the Digital Textbook Initiative.“Starting this fall with high school math and science,we will be the first state in the nation to provide schools with a state-approved list of digital textbooks.”That was Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in June, talking about his effort to get schools to use materials available free online. He listed reasons why he thinks digital textbooks make sense.

31.The Digital Textbook Initiative _____.A.will probably take effect in six years(很可能六年后生效)B.covers all the high school subjects(涵盖高中所有学科)C.is advocated by California state governor(得到加利福尼亚州州长的提倡)D.has been approved by all states(得到所有州的批准)【参考答案及解析】

digital adj.数字的

approve vi & vt.

initiative adj.

available adj.

Starting this fall with high school math and science,we will be the first state in the nation to provide schools with a state-approved list of digital textbooks.(1)“Starting...”

Why is this phenomenon occurring more than ever now,and why is it something that seemed almost nonexistent a few short years ago?Experts have several theories, and all are probably partially correct. One suggestion is sheer overcrowding. In the last decade, the number of cars on the roads has increased by more than 11 percent, and the number of miles driven has increased by 35 percent. However, the number of new road miles has only increased by 1 percent. That means more cars in the same amount of space;and the problem is magnified in urban areas. Also, people have less time and more things to do.With people working and trying to fit extra chores(琐事)and activities into the day, stress levels have never been higher.Stress creates anxiety, which leads to short tempers. These factors, when combined in certain situations, can spell Road Rage.

51.Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a cause of aggressive driving?A.Increasing number of cars.(车越来越多。)B.Drivers' stress and anxiety.(司机的压力和焦虑。)C.Overcrowded roads.(拥挤的道路。)D.Rush hour traffic.(高峰时段交通。)

根据以上解题技巧,需要先阅读题后的选择项目,然后可以定位到本段“the number of cars on the roads has increased”,“Stress creates anxiety, which leads to short tempers”,“the number of new road miles has only increased by 1 percent”这些分别对应A项、B项和C项。

magnify vt.& vi.放大

spell vt.

1.Stress creates anxiety,which leads to short tempers.(1)这里which引导的是非限定性定语从句,先行词是anxiety。

2.These factors, when combined in certain situations, can spell Road Rage.(1)这是个简单句。在主语和谓语之间插人了过去分词短语combined in certain situations,添加了连词when,过去分词短语部分可以改为时间状语从句,即when they are combined in certain situations。

The payroll register constitutes the treasurer department's authority to pay the employees.Payment is usually made in the form of a check drawn on the company's regular bank account.Pre-numbered payroll checks should be used, and there should be independent verification of the agreement of the checks with the payroll register in detail and in total.

Payroll checks should be distributed directly to employees,on proper identification,by treasurer's department personnel. The checks should not be returned to payroll for distribution since the payroll department would then have control over both preparing and paying the payroll.Alternatively, payroll checks may be deposited directly in the employee's checking account.

Payment of employees in cash is the exception rather than the rule. This form of payment is more easily influenced by errors, irregularities, and robbery than payment by check.Following payment, check numbers are entered on the register, the preparation and payment of the payroll are programmed on a computer.

A termination notice should be issued by the personnel department on the completion of an individual's employment with the company.Copies of the termination authorization should be sent to the employee's supervisor and to payroll, and a copy should be filed in the employee's personnel record. The proper execution of this function is vital in preventing terminated employees from continuing on the payroll. The subsequent diversion of such payroll checks to an unauthorized individual has been responsible for many payroll cheat through the years.

Every company is expected to fulfill the legal requirements relevant to the filing of payroll tax returns and the payment of the resulting taxes.Ordinarily, the payroll department prepares the tax returns and a check is issued through the guarantor system in payment of the taxes. The responsibility for the filing of returns before due dates should be assigned to a payroll department supervisor.Furthermore, there should be independent verification within that department of the accuracy and completeness of the return.Effective control over tax returns is necessary to avoid penalties for late or incorrect filings.

1.Payroll checks should be _____.A.identified by treasurer's department personnelB.distributed to employees by the company's bankC.sent to employees directly and responsibly by postD.deposited regularly in the employee's account

2.Which of the following statements may NOT be the weakness of payment in cash?A.It's easily affected by mistakes.B.It may be distributed irregularly.C.There is possibility of robbery.D.It can be done conveniently.【参考答案及解析】

快读阅读选项,根据题干线索词payment in cash定位到第三段第二句“This form of payment is more easily influenced by errors, irregularities, and robbery than payment by check”,其中的errors,irregularities和robbery分别对应A项、B项和C项。

“Clean your plate!”and“Be a member of the clean-plate club!”Just about every kid in the US has heard this from a parent or grandparent.Often,it's accompanied by an appeal:“Just think about those starving orphans in Africa!”Sure,we should be grateful for every bite of food.Unfortunately, many people in the US take a few too many bites.Instead of saying“clean the plate”,perhaps we should save some food for tomorrow.

According to news reports,US restaurants are partly to blame for the growing bellies.A waiter puts a plate of food in front of each customer, with two to four times the amount recommended by the government, according to a USA Today story.Americans traditionally associate quantity with value and most restaurants try to give them that. They prefer to have customers complain about too much food rather than too little.

Barbara Rolls,a nutrition professor at Pennsylvania State University, told USA Today that restaurant portion sizes began to grow in the 1970s,the same time that the American waistline began to expand.

Health experts have tried to get many restaurants to serve smaller portions. Now,apparently, some customers are calling for this too.A restaurant industry trade magazine reported last month that 57 percent of more than 4,000 people surveyed believed restaurants serve portions that are too large;23 percent had no opinion;20 percent disagreed. But a closer look at the survey indicates that many Americans who can't afford fine dining still prefer large portions.Seventy percent of those earning at least $150,000 per year prefer smaller portions. But only 45 percent of those earning less than $25,000 want smaller.

It's not that working class Americans don't want to eat healthily. It's just that after long hours at low-paying jobs, getting less on their plate hardly seems like a good deal. They live from paycheck to paycheck, happy to save a little money for next year's Christmas presents.

1.Why do American restaurants serve large portions?A.Because Americans associate quantity with value.B.Because Americans have big bellies.C.Because Americans are good eaters.D.Because Americans are greedy.

2.Which of the following is NOT true of working class Americans?A.They work long hours.B.They live from paycheck to paycheck.C.They don't want to be healthy eaters.D.They want to save money for children.【参考答案及解析】

1.A。 题干问的是“美国饭馆为什么饭菜给得多?”,定位到文章第二段第三句“Americans traditionally associate quantity with value and most restaurants try to give them that”,即美国人在传统上把东西的价值跟数量联系在一起,因此大多数的饭馆给的量大。故选A。

2.C。 根据最后一段首句“It's not that working class Americans don't want to eat healthily.”,可知美国工人不是不想成为吃得健康的人。

Sex prejudices are based on and justified by the ideology that biology is destiny.According to this ideology, basic biological and psychological differences exist between the sexes. These differences require each sex to play a separate role in social life.Women are the weaker sex both physically and emotionally. Thus, they are naturally suited, much more so than men,to the performance of domestic duties.A woman's place, under normal circumstances,is within the protective environment of the home.Nature has determined that women play caretaker roles, such as wife and mother and homemaker. On the other hand, men are best suited to go out into the competitive world of work and politics, where serious responsibilities must be taken on.Men are to be the providers;women and children are“dependents”.

The ideology also holds that women who wish to work outside the household should naturally fill these jobs that are in line with the special capabilities of their sex.It is thus appropriate for women, not men,to be employed as nurses, social workers, elementary school teachers, household helpers, and clerks and secretaries.

These positions are simply an extension of women's domestic role.Informal distinctions between“women's work”and“men's work”in the labor force, according to the ideology, are simply a functional reflection of the basic differences between the sexes. Finally, the ideology suggests that nature has worked her will in another significant way.For the human species to survive over time, its members must regularly reproduce. Thus, women must, whether at home or in the labor force, make the most of their physical appearance.

So goes the ideology. It is,of course, not true that basic biological and psychological differences between the sexes require each to play sex defined roles in social life. There is ample evidence that sex roles vary from society to society, and those role differences that to exist are largely learned.

But to the degree people actually believe that biology is destiny and that nature intended for men and women to make different contributions to society, sex defined roles will be seen as totally acceptable.

1.Women's place, some people think,is within the protective environment of the home because _____.A.women can provide better care for the childrenB.women are too weak to do any agricultural work at allC.women are biologically suited to domestic jobsD.women can not compete with men in any field

2.Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?A.The division of sex defined roles is completely unacceptable.B.Women's roles in work are too limited at present.C.In one society, men might perform what is considered women's duties by another.D.Some of the women's roles in domestic duties can not be taken over by men.【参考答案及解析】

1.C。 题干问的是“某些人认为,女性的位置应该是在家庭环境的保护之下,原因是什么?”,根据线索词women's place, protective environment等可以定位到第一段第六句,其后面一句“Nature has determined that women play caretaker roles, such as wife and mother and homemaker.”,解释了原因,这里nature has determined对应biologically。故选C。

2.A。 故选A。

题干中常出现infer,imply,suggest,deduce,indicate,conclude,team,know等词汇。

It can be inferred from the first/last paragraph that _____.

It is implied(indicated/suggested)in the passage/the first/second/...paragraph that _____.

We can infer(assume/deduce)that _____.

The author indicates in the passage that _____.

It can be concluded from the passage that _____.

By...the author implies(suggests/indicates)that _____.

The tone of the passage can be described as _____.

What is the tone of the passage?

Which of the following best describes the author's attitude towards ...?

The author's tone in the passage is _____.

The author seems to think/agree that _____.

一般来说,作者的写作意图主要有告知读者某些信息(to inform readers),使读者愉悦(to entertain readers),说服读者接受某种观点(to persuade readers)三种情况。

The author uses the example of ... to show that _____.

The author uses the two questions at the beginning of the passage to _____.

...are mentioned in the first paragraph to _____.

The author writes this passage in order to _____.

In writing the passage, the author intends to _____.

The author's purpose of writing this passage is to _____.

What is the purpose of writing this article?

常用的选项有以下词汇:optimistic(乐观的),pessimistic(悲观的),approval(赞成的),disapproval(不赞成的),positive(积极的),negative(消极的),neutral(中立的),compromising(折中的),indifferent(漠不关心的),objective(客观的),sarcastic(讽刺的),suspicious(怀疑的),sympathetic(同情的),critical(批评的)等。

选项中常出现以下词汇:tell(讲述),explain(解释),prove(证明),demonstrate(举例说明),analyze(分析),advise(劝告),persuade(劝说),comment(评论),praise(赞
