前言
在现代化、多元化的养老服务体系构建过程中，为满足当代老年人不断增长的多样化、高端化的服务需求和老年人现代生活方式、学习方面的需求，需要养老服务人才理解多元文化、能看懂老年护理和营养保健等英文材料、具有较强的英语综合应用能力。在地球村的发展过程中，为了提高跨文化照护能力，需要培养养老服务人才能用英语与老年人进行有效沟通并完成照护任务，懂得与国外老年人打交道的交流技巧与原则，掌握与完成任务有关的老年服务专业词汇与表达方式，以适应涉外老年服务工作的实践需要。因此，我们编写了本教材。
本教材根据养老服务岗位的基本需求，与更加优质和更高层次的老年服务相结合，设计了日常运用英语开展服务的八个项目。项目一“为照护职业做准备”学习在开启老年照护职业生涯前需要做的相关准备工作。项目二“照护生命体征”训练最基本的养老护理工作：测量和记录生命体征。项目三“个人照护”训练最重要的养老护理工作：针对老年人的个人护理。项目四“家庭健康照护”训练在居家工作场所内的养老护理工作：在受护者家中提供家庭健康照护服务。项目五“协助给药”训练最常用的养老护理工作：用药管理、给药等。项目六“个案健康管理”训练为老年人提供日常护理、就医陪同、紧急情况预备等健康管理工作。项目七“接待服务”训练在机构工作场所内的养老护理工作。项目八“提供老年人照顾服务”学习在养老护理岗位上如何提供可供选择的护理服务咨询。
每个项目内设计分任务与学习情境，每个学习情境是编者根据养老服务人员一线岗位的真实问题而精心创设的，包括任务描述、相关知识、词汇、常用句型、同步练习。学完一个项目后，可以进行综合训练，包括课堂活动、选择题、配伍题、课外实践或调查题、思考题、问答题、案例分析、对话库、主题阅读等多种形式。这种设计既便于教师开展课堂活动、学习者反复进行模拟训练，也能让自学者通过测试来检测学习效果。在教材形式体例上，注重生动活泼；在教学与实训内容上，充分体现实用性，力求使学生掌握基本的知识点，培养学生灵活运用的能力和自我拓展学习资源的能力。
本教材由谈玲芳（北京劳动保障职业学院副教授）、王红红（北京劳动保障职业学院副教授）担任主编，由徐红莉（湖北职业技术学院副教授）、罗雪艳（美国达拉斯医疗中心注册护士）、杨蓉蓉（中国社会科学院大学社会学系讲师）担任副主编。其中，项目一、三、八由谈玲芳编写，项目二由徐红莉、景玉萍（湖北职业技术学院教授）编写，项目四、七由王红红编写，项目五由徐红莉编写，项目六由杨蓉蓉编写，罗雪艳负责收集整理资料并配音。北京慈爱嘉养老服务有限公司执行总裁张振秀及其团队成员为教材的编写收集了资料，反馈了意见。美国Rebecca Lynn Scott女士参与了课堂教学实践并反馈了意见。全书由谈玲芳修改统稿。
本教材主要作为高职高专老年服务与管理专业学生学习的教材，同时也可作为养老服务相关领域的管理人员、服务人员的培训教材和阅读、参考书目，还可供计划出国留学和工作的中国养老护理员学习，以及老年服务相关领域的英语教师进行教学参考。

Nursing Homes养老院
There are generally two types of care available in a nursing home—short-term, rehabilitative care and long-term care for chronic（慢性的）conditions. In addition to rehabilitative capabilities, nursing homes are staffed to provide for daily medical needs and can accommodate patients who spend most or all of their time in a bed or a wheelchair. Nursing homes can accommodate patients with a wide variety of conditions, including mild to severe dementia.
养老院一般可以提供两种类型的护理：短期康复护理和慢性病人的长期照护。除了康复护理以外，养老院的工作人员提供日常的医疗需求，并能照顾需要在床上或轮椅上度过大部分或全部时间的人们。养老院可以接纳各种病情的患者，包括轻度至重度老年痴呆症患者。
Assisted Living Facilities生活辅助机构
These facilities are staffed to provide help to people who need assistance during the day, but are still able to live somewhat independently. The level of assistance provided is generally intermittent and task-specific. For example, your loved one may need help with bathing, meal preparation or taking medications. In most cases, an assisted living facility will not accept a person who is unable to move about on his or her own.

Adult day care programs provide care and socialization for people who need assistance and/or monitoring during the day. The goal is to offer respite（喘息）to family caregivers, allowing them to go to work, run errands or simply get a break from caregiving chores. Depending on the program, adult day care centers provide social activities, meals and certain health-related services.
成人日托项目为需要帮助的人提供白天护理或看护。其目标是能够使提供照护的家人抽出时间去上班、外出办事或者只是从照料中得到休息。依托于该项目，成人日托中心提供社会活动、膳食和一些与健康相关的服务。
Hospice临终关怀
Hospice is end-of-life care provided by nurses, social workers, home-health aides, spiritual leaders and others. The goal is to keep a terminally ill person as content, comfortable and pain free as possible. Hospice care can be provided at home or in a facility. Services typically extend to support for the entire family, not just the patient.

What to include：

3.Education—detail your academic experience since the age of 16, most recent first. Include dates, name and location of institution, level of qualification, subjects studied and grades achieved. For your certificate, mention two or three classes relevant to your chosen internship field.
4.Work experience（paid and/or voluntary）—include dates, job title, name of employing organization, main duties/responsibilities, skills demonstrating your style or approach（how you carried out your tasks?）and result or achievement. Where possible, quantify your results. Example：Helped to decrease customer complaints by 25%.
5.Key skills and achievements—include knowledge and experience of Information Technology（IT/computing）, foreign language ability, any awards or outstanding achievements etc. Mention anything you feel is essential to your application that is not mentioned elsewhere in your CV.
6.Interests—this section offers the employer the chance to find out more about your personality, you as an individual. Try to be a bit different, avoiding just saying“Socializing, reading and going out with friends”.
