Part 1

Part 2

编者 谨识Part 1国际会展英语入门Chapter 1CREATING A TRADE SHOW设计会展内容Unit 1Location and Date地点和日期MP3-1

The location of a trade show should be chosen carefully. There should be lots of free parking.People have to pay admission. They don't want to pay for parking also. The area the show is held in must fit the size of the show.A small trade show in a large area will look like a poor show.A large trade show in a small area will make people feel crowded and uncomfortable. They will leave quickly. Those at the booths will not feel the show was successful. The date needs to be chosen carefully as well.It shouldn't conflict with other major events in town or people might not come to the trade show.

Dialogue 1

A:We need to pick a date in March. This trade show has always been in March.

B:That sounds good to me. What would be the best weekend in March?

A:The last weekend in March is Easter. That's not a good choice.

B:Yes. Many people travel out of town to see family.

The first week is not good.

A:That's right. That's the annual Spring Dance. The entire town goes to that dance.

B:We should find out if there are any events during the third weekend of March.

A:没错。

Dialogue 2

A:Have you thought of a good location for this trade show?

B:The Community Centre might be a good place. We could use the skating rink area.

A:That's a very big space. It might be too big.

B:We should decide on a space and then we'll know how many booths we need to have.

A:Maybe we should see how many people want to have booths then pick a space.

B:People want to know where it is before they decide if they want to have a display.

Dialogue 3

A:I think we should have it at the first weekend of February.

B:I won't be here. I'm taking my family skiing.

That's not a good weekend.

A:No, it's not. I need you here. How about the second weekend of February?

B:That's a bad time. All the kids are out of school for February break.

A:I forgot about that. Not a good time for a trade show. How about the next weekend?

B:Isn't that your husband's retirement party? We'd better not pick that weekend.

Dialogue 4

A:The exhibition centre has agreed to host our trade show.

B:Good. That's a nice venue. It's clean and easy to find.

A:Yes. Everybody in town knows where it is.

B:It's also easy to see from the highway for people coming in from out of town.

A:There will be lots of people coming in from the small towns and farms nearby.

B:Especially since this is a farm trade show.

Dialogue 5

A:The good news is that the meeting facility we want to use has a date open.

B:Great. What's the bad news?

A:The bad news is that the room is too big for the size of show we usually put on.

B:That's not bad news. That just means we need to get more displays this year.

A:You're right. This is our chance to expand the show.

B:It'll be bigger and better than ever before. This is so exciting.

Dialogue 6

A:What is a good month for us to have the trade show?

B:We are an association of home builders. When do our members build homes?

A:Building always starts up in the spring. It's very busy through the summer.

B:It starts to quiet down in the fall and during winter there's almost no construction.

A:We should have the trade show right before spring.

B:Yes. Let's have it at the end of February or at the beginning of March.

Dialogue 7

A:We either need to have fewer displays or we need a bigger space.

B:Yes. For the first time ever, we have more applications than we have booths.

A:What's easier?Cutting down the number of displays or changing the venue?

B:It's easier to turn some of the applicants down.

A:Yes, but how will we decide who gets a booth this year and who doesn't?

B:We have to look at the dates on the applications.

It has to be first come first served.

It's important to have businesses in a trade show that have something in common with that trade show. Dialogue 7

A:Honey, I have a question. Isn't this supposed to be a home and leisure show?

B:Yes. Why do you ask?

A:I don't see a lot of home and leisure booths. I thought we'd see stuff for the garden.

Radio and television are two excellent ways to advertise. Radio and television stations will do a lot of free advertising for community events. If the trade show is organized to raise money for charity, a radio or television station will often be a sponsor of the event. This means that they will donate a lot of free advertising for the event.

Dialogue 1

A:I need someone to volunteer to contact the local radio stations.

B:I'll do that. I've done it for the last five years.

They know who I am at both stations.

B:I'll do it. I used to work at the TV station. It'll be easy.

Dialogue 2

A:I have never organized a trade show before. I need some suggestions for advertising.

B:The advertising is easy. Go down and talk to the radio and TV stations.

A:But what do I tell them?

B:Simple. You tell them about the trade show we're having. We have it every year.

A:Did they do advertising for the show last year?

B:Of course. Part of their job is to sponsor and advertise events just like this one.

Dialogue 3

A:I think radio is the best form of advertising. We should talk to the radio station.

B:I think TV is the best form of advertising. We should talk to the TV station.

A:What if we could have both? That would be the best.

B:Yes, you're right. The more advertising, the better, I always say.

A:I will talk to the radio station this week.

B:I'll go down to the TV station tomorrow afternoon.

Dialogue 4

A:Can you do some advertising for us?

B:Yes. We will cover your trade show on the evening and noon news report this week.

A:That's great. We are sure to have a good turn out.

B:Where should we mail the invoice to?

A:Oh. I forgot to ask about that.We are on a tight budget. What is this going to cost?

B:Don't worry. The TV station will give you a good price.

Dialogue 7

A:I haven't heard a single spot on the radio about the trade show. Have you?

B:No. And I just found out why.I got a call from Jake from the station just now.

A:Yeah? What did he say?Why am I not hearing anything on the air about the show?

A:The trade show is ready to go. All we need is some people to attend.

B:We will run ads in the newspaper and on TV and radio like we do every year.

A:This year I would like to try something else as well. Let's do a mail out.

B:Mail outs are expensive.

A:If we mail out to the right people lots will come and we will make our money back.

B:Okay. It's a business trade show so we need to mail out to the business community.

Dialogue 3

A:Here is a list of fax numbers. I hope this helps.

B:Good work. We will fax this trade show application form out.

A:Hopefully many will want to have a booth at our show.

B:Where did you get all these fax numbers?
